2011 Santa Fe Springs VII Tournament

PANTERAS WIN AGAIN!!!

The Panteras won their fourth championship of the season, and third in the last four tournaments, by defeated the Pala Braves 6-0 in the championship game at Little Lake Park in Santa Fe Springs. Starting from the number 5 seed, they faced Colton Dirt Bags in the morning game and won 4-1 with Max Montero getting the win.

In the semi-finals they faced the number 1 seed, Liberty FP and with Ryan Webb in the circle won 8-0 to face the Pala Braves in the championship game.  In the game Tommy Obergon got the ball against Sonny Perkins of the Braves.  The game was dominated by the pitching with the teams only able to combine for 3 hits in the first 3 1/2 innings.  In the bottom of the 4th the Panteras were finally able to get to Perkin's combining 4 hits, including a double by the long lost Jimmy Buentello Sr, to score 4 runs. 

In the fifth inning the Panteras scored 2 more runs as Buentello tripled in a run and then scored on a ground out to complete the scoring.   Obergon and Montero, who came in relief for Obergon in the fourth, combined for a two-hit shutout to secure the win for the Panteras. 

The Pala Braves came into Sunday as the number 3 seed and faced J&B Painting in their morning game where pitching dominated the game and won 2-1.  In the semi-finals they were once again locked in a pitching dual and squeaked out a 1-0 win.  Sonny Perkins was the iron man as he pitched all three games for the Braves.

This tournament capped off the SCIFL's longest season as all 9 tournaments were played.  This is first time that an August tournament has been played.  Good luck to all teams as they go to Championship play.  Confirmed to play in the NAFA World Series are Balboa, Liberty FP and the Palm Springs Express while the Pala Braves will play in the NAFA AA-Major and ISC tournament.
