2011 Santa Fe Springs VI Tournament
LIBERTY FP TAKES THE CHAMPIONSHIP
Liberty FP got the wheels in motion for championship play going 5-1 this weekend at Santa Fe Springs. With a 2-1 record in pool play, they finished as the fifth seed as it was a tough day with four other teams finishing with 2-1 records.
Liberty FP started the single elimination against San Diego Primetime and won 5-1 which put them against the number one seed Panteras in the semi-finals. In a tough played game it took extra innings to decide the game, but Liberty FP came out on top and left the Panteras tying run on base to end the game.
In the championship game they faced Macabbi USA and Liberty FP had Darrin McCall in the circle against Jason Gluckman. Mitch Brim opened the game with a double and would come in to score on a sacrifice fly for a quick 1-0 lead. But Liberty answer with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.
Liberty added 5 more runs in the second including a two run homer by Dave Waco to take a 6-1 lead. Macabbi added another run in the fourth to narrow the gap but Liberty came back with 2 runs of their own on three hits to keep the lead at 8-2. The score remained that way until the 7th inning.

In the bottom of the inning with 1 out, Liberty had a runner on first with Waco at the plate. On a passed ball the runner took second and playing the percentages, Waco was walked intentionally to create the force play. One pitch was all that was needed to Jason Obergon as he placed it well over the left field fence to seal the win and the first championship of the year for Liberty FP.
Macabbi USA also finished with a 2-1 record in the round robin and secured the number 3 seed in single elimination. In their first game of the morning they faced the Colton Dirt Bags and won 7-4 with Gluckman getting the win.
