2011 Santa Fe Springs III TournamentJ&B PAINTING SHUTOUTS EVERYONE FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP! On a great Southern California Weekend, J&B Painting goes undefeated and does not allow a run on Sunday to win the tournament in Santa Fe Springs. Temperatures were in the high 70's with morning clouds made for the great weekend. The players from J&B also know as the Cali-Mex Charros, take their second tournament in a row as they also won SFS II. J&B Painting came out of the round robin as the number one seed going 3-0 and only allowing 5 runs. It earned them a game bye and they faced San Diego Primetime in their first game. They won 10-0 and advanced to the semi-finals against the Colton Dirt Bags and beat them 5-0 and into the championship game where they would face the Panteras. Cory Avery was in the circle for J&B against crafty Dennis Webb of the Panteras. Both pitchers were on their marks and only one hit was allowed in the first two innings, a double by J&B's Mario Hernandez. In the third inning Matt Montero came in for relief of Webb and continued the hitless ball game. Only three hits were on the board as the game went into the bottom of the 6th. Gerald Pyle opened the inning with a high chopper over the third basemen's head. The next batter put down a sacrifice bunt and was safe on a fielding error. J&B's next batter wasn't able to Stacie the runners and with two strikes blooped a ball into shallow left field which got away from the fielders allowing Pyle to score from second. After another batter got on base to load the bases, Old Man Sonny Perkins scored two on a single. Avery had all the runs he needed and shutdown the Panteras in the 7th for the complete game win. The Panteras took the number two seed out of the round robin also going 3-0 and allowing 7 runs. Their first game of the day was against Liberty FP and they won 6-2 to get into the semi-finals against Maccabi USA. In the semi's they came out on top 10-0. Note: in the championship game, Montero struck out the first 9 of 10 batters he faces, only allowing a single by Avery. The next tournament is schedule for June 25-26 and once again in Santa Fe Springs.
