2011 Santa Fe Springs I Tournament

MACABBI USA WINS THE TOURNAMENT!!!

In a tournament that started on a wet weekend in March, it concluded on a warm beautiful day on the first of May.  Macabbi USA, number 3 seed of the round robin, squeaked out two wins including starting the day with an International Tie Breaker game over the Colton Dirt Bags, 5-4.  In the semi-finals they faced Liberty FP and came out on top 4-3 to enter the championship game and face off against the Panteras.  This would be the second championship game between the two already this season as the Panteras took the first one in Palm Springs. 

In the Championship game, Jason Gluckman was in the circle for Macabbi against Tommy Obergon of the Panteras.  Macabbi jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the first on two hits and a sacrifice fly.  They added two more runs in the third inning on a Billy Frank home run. 

In the fifth inning, Chris Paiva homered of Fernie Rameriz Jr., who came in relief in the 4th inning to take a 5-0 lead.  The Panteras got on the board in the bottom of the 5th with Robert Aragon opening up their half of the inning with a triple.  He later came in to score on Larry Watts, Jr single.  Larry also scored in the inning.  However, Macabbi took the runs back in the 6th with a double from David Shapiro that scored two runs.  Jason went the distance to earn the win.

The Panteras entered the championship game with 9-7 slugfest over the Pala Braves 9-7 and their bats stayed hot defeating Balboa 11-4.
