2011 Palm SpringsTournamentPANTERAS II TAKE THE FIRST TOURNEY The Panteras II open up the season with a perfect 6-0 record in Palm Springs and taking the Championship game 9-1 over Macabbi USA. The weather was perfect for softball in Palms Springs with tempetures in the low 80's most of the weekend with very little wind. City of Palm Springs Parks 7 Recreation Director Vicki Oltean once again did a fantastic job in getting the tournament despite many obstacles. The Panteras went 3-0 in round robin play with wins over Calimex, Balboa and the Caribbean and took the number one seed in single elimination by allowing only 8 runs. With a bye in the single elimination they faced off against SD Renegades and won 7-5 and that once again had them facing off against Calimex in the semi-finals where they came out on top again 4-1. In the Championship game they faced Macabbi USA who also went 3-0 in round robin and taking the number two seed despite having only 10 players. Dennis Webb made his return to So Cal tournament play and started the championship game for the Panteras II against Debbie Day of Macabbi USA. Jason Obergon of Panteras II open the game with a triple and later scored on a sacrifice fly. Steve Hinostroza also scored in the inning for a quick 2-0 lead which in the next inning was 3-0 as they added another run. In the bottom of the third Tommy Obergon replaced Webb as a medical precaution. There was no scoring until the bottom of the 5th when Macabbi USA took advantage of 2 hits and a couple of errors to get on the scoreboard. Obergon left the game in the inning after getting hit on the toe with a line drive and was replaced by Ryan Webb. The Panteras II open the game in the 6th inning scoring 4 runs on 6 hits and added another two in the 7th on Hinostroza's home run. The game ended with the Panteras II on top 9-1. As mentioned before, Macabbi USA went 3-0 in the round robin and taking the number two seed. Jason Gluckman and Danny Winnick shared the pitching duties on Saturday. Macabbi USA had wins over Palm Springs Express, Black Curtain and the Pala Braves. On Sunday they got a couple more reinforcements and had wins over the Colton Dirt Bags and Black Curtain to get them into the Championship game.
